Treatments for Panic Attacks
Nature teaches us about how to deal with panic attacks. Take for example the bamboo grass, which bends and sways wherever the wind blows it. It is the tallest of grasses and yet it can bend very low. Bamboo grasses are very flexible and they adjust easily to where the wind blows at will.
Now there is wisdom in studying bamboo grasses. Contrary to the fast short-cut treatments for panic attacks we have today, such as medicines and other mind techniques, there has been no other effective way than to deal with the anxiety and fear face to face. Like the bamboo grass, we are taught by nature to accept our situations honestly and maturely, since our situations and conditions in life are the root causes of panic attacks.
Another example is the river. Observe how the river flows at will. Nothing can stop the river from flowing to the sea. That is its nature, and we can do nothing about it. Facing your fear, or failure, or rejection, or the possibilities and conditions in your life is a great and effective remedy for dealing with panic attacks.
Since the main cause of panic attacks can be found in our wrong assumption and inaccurate expectations of our daily life situations, learning from the river teaches us to let the flow of things go naturally. We cannot change the nature and outcome of things, but we can change how we see them. Changing how we see them can teach us to change our approach to our problems. Between stimulus and response, there is choice.
Like the river, face your condition in total honesty. Mourn for a day about it, but after 24 hours, decide to stand up and move on ahead. Because chances are, if you allow yourself to get stuck in the middle of your situation, then you will really get stuck. Set aside other treatments for panic attacks, and directly confront your fears.
One last example is the seasons. There is winter, spring, summer, and fall. These are the seasons of our lives and we cannot change them. May you realize that our life has seasons and there will always be ups and downs to it. Leave the quick-fix treatments for panic attacks and adapt the wise way to deal with it. Everything will be alright.
