We as human beings are capable of emotions. Either we express, project, or feel it in our daily lives, our emotions keeps us sane and balanced. A few years ago, American Psychologist Robert Plutchik created the wheel of emotions. It consists of 8 basic emotions including fear, and 8 advanced emotions. Probably the most dreaded of all human emotions is fear, fear to the extreme leading to anxiety and panic. No wonder why we have so many anxiety disorders panic attacks today.
A panic attack is described as the moment where in the individual experiences intense feelings of fear and worry. This sudden fear replaces thinking and no one is excused from having it. Anxiety disorders panic attacks often happen when the person is involved in a disastrous situation where lives are threatened and endangered. Such is true also with animals, for they too are prone to panic.
Long ago when man used to hunt for their own food, a form of mass panic is driven to the animals to make them panic. Soon enough these animals would go run around in circles. Then it will be a perfect time to hunt for their prey. Humans are also very prone to mass panic. But since we are better species than animals, we are able to control anxiety disorders panic attacks way better than animals. Man was able to come up with various ways to cope up with this fear.
We know of thinking methods today that are used to eliminate the feeling of anxiety right away. We have also come up with disaster drills and lessons to better adapt to the situation we fight face in. Most treatments include medications, psychological therapy, self-help methods, and cognitive behavior therapy.
Cognitive behavioral treatments are among the best. This involves changing the way a person thinks about the fear. Most patients are asked to replace those negative thoughts with positive and healthy ones. Of course, since most anxiety disorder panic attacks are based from unrealistic scenarios, it won’t be really hard to change ones thinking. Then there is the most common treatment for anxiety attacks – paper bag breathing. This short-term remedy balances oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body. But sad to say, it is not a long-term cure.
